Helicopter crashes Monday put October on pace to become the deadliest month for Americans in Afghanistan since the war started in 2001.

One helicopter crashed in the western part of the country after leaving the scene of a firefight with suspected drug traffickers, killing seven U.S. troops and three agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration.
