BEIJING STILL CODDLING NORTH KOREA -- BY MICHAEL MAZZA, Center for Defense Studies


The news on North Korea this week is uplifting as usual. Reporting for The Washington Post, Blaine Harden writes that the North Korean military is now calling the shots in the DPRK’s state-run economy. The Korean People’s Army (KPA) has, in particular, taken over the lucrative mining industry, whose revenues are divided between Kim Jong-Il’s personal accounts and KPA coffers. And who’s purchasing North Korea’s mineral resources? None other than big brother China. Writes Harden:
