The president on Tuesday night held a private screening of the new film "The Monuments Men," based on the true World War II story of a special force commissioned to locate and save valuable pieces of art before they were destroyed by the Nazis.
George Clooney, Bill Murray and Matt Damon, three of the film's stars, attended. Grant Heslov, co-producer of the movie who also co-wrote its screenplay with Mr. Clooney, also accepted the administration's invitation.
Other attendees included Robert Edsel, author of the book on which the film is based; Harry Ettlinger, a member of the real-life Monuments Men; and a variety of administration officials, such as Deputy Secretary of State Bill Burns and others.
Last week, the White House also hosted a gathering of the rich and powerful as part of a state dinner honoring French President Francois Hollande.
